Talisker 43 Year Old Xpedition Oak
Talisker 43 Year Old is the first release in the distillery’s Xpedition Oak series: a collection of some of the rarest and oldest Talisker single malts. Shaped by the natural elements of the rugged Isle of Skye, the series celebrates wild whisky making at its finest.
Matured in American oak hogsheads and left at a natural cask strength of 50% ABV, Talisker Xpedition Oak is limited to only 1830 bottles from a selection of just ten casks; a truly special single malt Scotch, presented in a beautiful bottle and housed in an intricately-crafted wooden box. Finished in casks including staves that have traversed the Atlantic Ocean on an epic 3,264-mile journey by British adventurer James Aiken, each bottle of this rare whisky is accompanied by a piece of one of these very staves.
A mellow spice leads on the nose, with a delicious top note of stewed apple and a whisp of aromatic smoky wax, followed by complex layers of varnished wood and fresh sea spray. It is smooth and vibrant, with a rich intensity and gentle astringency from a sweet chilli pepper warmth that coats the palate in a lingering finish.
